Immediately after Liberation, survivors Izzy and Ruth Wilder run a lucrative black market as refugees on the grounds of a former Nazi death camp, and eventually launch a successful luxury shopping bag business as newcomers in New York City. Eighty years later, five Wilder women return to Germany, determined to understand the place that shaped their family. Their journey forces them to confront the realities of starting over after the war, and the challenges of pursuing the elusive American Dream as Jewish immigrants. Wilder is a story about rebuilding from nothing, the resilience of families, and the complexities and joys of being Jewish in America.
